Lamentations and Promises

Posted on: February 7, 2008 12:27 am

Here I sit, on some random rainy Wednesday, outside of Boston.  My soul still recovering from the disappointment of Sunday's game.    Let's face it, the best team didn't win.  The team that was hottest and had the momentum, at the right moment, won the game.  That's totally cool and I can accept that they won.  I am actually glad to see that Michael Strahan and Tom Coughlin win.  It just hurts.  I think if all fans went through the emotional tides that we, as New England fans, went through this year then I am sure that they would be a little more understanding then they have been.

From the beginning, this year was going to attract a lot of attention.  With the acquisitions of Randy Moss, Adalius Thomas and Wes Welker, the national media was buzzing like a hive of bees.  From the beginning, I said that this season was going to be a special one.  A lot of the media and other teams fans, were completely critical of the Krafts, Bellichick and others for bringing Randy Moss here.  Thinking that he was going to be the lazy, unmotivated teammate that he was in Oakland.  However, when you ask anyone with an HR or Psychology background they will tell you this.

  • When you work for an organization that you are not happy with and morale is low - you will not have success.

Randy was obviously not happy with the management, coaching or other teammates.  Let's face it, and with no disrespect to the Raiders, but they are - now - a joke.  Al Davis should retire and leave his legacy as is.  Randy eluded to his displeasure with the franchise (Raiders) Media Day in Phoenix.  Anyway, most pepople that are unhappy in their jobs, will only do just enough to get by.

  • When you are winning or successful you are happy.

Many members of the national media, throughout the season remarked on how often and big his smile was this season.  It's no secret that he is one of the best receivers, and for him to be happy was important in the success of the team.  He made it clear that he was happy and found the team that he wants to stay with til he retires.  When a person is happy and has fun with what they are doing, they will go above and beyond what is asked of them.  Obviously, Randy is.

I can only imagine what the future will bring, and can't wait to see more history in the making.  I just hope to see more championships in the future.

Lamentations and Promises

Wildflour - couldn't agree more. I am trying to focus on the positive about this season, and try and avoid all the hateful team and personal attacks I've combatted this past week. I am grateful for your thoughtfulness and will try to make lemonade out of lemons from now on.

I think the best thing this team can do is hang together and keep morale up over the winter. I fear it will be a very difficult offseason for everyone; but the Pats have shown that they're as resilient and consistent in their excellence as any team in the NFL has ever been. Specifically, I am hopeful Randy Moss will be re-signed (a foregone conclusion in my mind); Assante Samuel and the Pats will come to a mutual understanding; Junior Seau, Tedy Bruschi and Rodney Harrison will give it at least one more try, and that the offensive line will continue to be the premier one in this league.

Next order of business - the draft. Mike Reiss wrote the following in the Globe in September:

"The Patriots will lose their 2008 first-round draft choice if they make the playoffs, or their second- and third-round draft choices if they don't make the playoffs.

But as part of trades the Patriots made during the 2007 draft, the team had already acquired some extra draft choices -- the San Francisco 49ers' 2008 first-round draft pick, and the Oakland Raiders' 2008 third-round draft pick."

As it stands, I'm very optimistic about the slots the Pats have. They have a genuinely good opportunity even if some of the veterans opt to retire. I am nothing but confident about the future. And this hiatus will be very beneficial in allowing the team to get its collective head together.

You're in Lowell, right?? Hope you're having a pleasant (albeit snowy) day up north. And good to see you back here - I noticed you were off the boards for some time.

Lamentations and Promises

Coach Bill -

I can always count on you for moral support!.  LOL

Yeah I was off for a while, because I was in between jobs and couldn't afford my internet.  But I am back and better than ever.

Yup, in Lowell.  My roommate works for the police and had the pleasure of actually booking and taking Willie Andrews fingerprints.  He told me that before he set aside his personal belongings, he "borrowed" Randy Moss' phone number.  Which I thought was WAY cool.  Don't think he'll ever use it except to show off to his fake-ass friends.  Oh well - it's still WAY COOL!

Anyway,  I was really counting on a Green Bay / New England SB.  I really thought that they had a chance.  I really liked what Brett and the youngest team in the NFL did this season.

Both of us know that come draft and free-agent signing day, Bill will suprise us as usual.  For the draft, we won't get that many compensatory picks, and we lose one of those round 1 picks because of "spygate".  However, I think that Bill and Scott will somehow work it all out.

I am sure that Randy will be here, but Donte' Stallworth is another issue.  He's due 9 mil next year and there is NO WAY any team is going to pick up an average 600-900 yards on the season guy for that kind of money.  Unless he takes a serious pay cut here - I can't see him sticking around.  That would leave us room to promote Jabar (if he stays) and move Chad Jackson.

Perhaps I am just speculating...who's to say.  I hope that you stay tuned to my blog....it's going to be a scorcher!  LOL
